Recess Activities : ウィキペディア英語版 | Recess Activities Recess Activities is a publicly accessible nonprofit artist work and exhibition space located in a street-level storefront at 41 Grand Street in Soho, Manhattan, New York City. In February 2011, Recess opened a satellite space for Session at Kidd Yellin Studios at 133 Imlay Street in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Free of charge and open to the public, Recess facilitates everyday interactions between artists and the community in order to promote the productive space of the working artist as a site of valuable visual and intellectual interactions. Our endeavors promote critical exposure for the artists we support while fostering an inclusive environment in which artists and the public can engage in a meaningful exchange of art and ideas.〔Recess Activities, Inc. ("Mission" ), ''Mission Activities Inc.'', accessed November 11, 2010.〕 ==History== Recess was formed in May 2009 to address concerns that emerging artists cannot afford to live or work in proximity to exhibition communities. Recess "functions neither exclusively as a gallery nor a studio space, but instead gives artists the ability to set the terms of their work in a store-front location that is open to the public. The nature of this setting creates a shared space for artists, viewers, and the work." 〔Fensom, Sarah ("Double Room at Recess Activities, Inc." ), ''Dossier Journal'', November 2, 2010, accessed November 11, 2010.〕
